The following government types are in use throughout Mairiga:
Anarchistic
Government that is actually no government—law is non-existent and only the strongest and most brutal can prosper. While anarchistic states can be difficult places to dwell, some strongly favor the right to be left alone and hence champion such anarchy.
Capitalistic
The free market is totally unregulated within such states; trade is all-important and the drive for financial superiority dominates all related politics. Nearly all citizens are greedy and self-serving.
Dictatorship
One charismatic person (or a small, elite group) holds absolute power and fear keeps the population in line. Dictatorships aren't necessarily warlike with their geographical neighbors, but can be tremendously cruel toward their own people.
Feudalistic
Government provided in distinct layers, where each successive layer derives power and authority from the layer beneath. Feudalistic states focus on honor and tradition—often over hundreds or even thousands of years—and thus are nearly impossible to change.
Grayhair
Only those of a certain age and older (and therefore presumed the wisest) are allowed to lead the people. Greyhair governments tend to be peaceful and efficient but can also be ultra-conservative and unable to adapt to changing conditions or situations.
Intellectic
Those of a highly learned and intelligent background manage all state affairs, especially those who employ magic. Such governments are the favorites of wizards who value intellectual strength and cunning above all else.
Monarchistic
Government run by a single king and/or queen (similar to a feudalistic state except that a single person or married couple actively leads or manages all affairs of the country). Monarchies are typically steeped in tradition and allegiance can be fanatical.
Sexist
Government that only allows one specific gender of a given race to participate. Such states tend to be proud and arrogant but strong and loyal.
Socialistic
Government whereby everyone does his fair share of work to better the lives of the population as a whole. Socialistic states frown upon capitalism and free trade, promoting the idea that without the rich, there can be no poor.
Theologic
Government where only those dedicated to faith and belief can participate. Theological states are quite common throughout Mairiga, where Sisla is so revered that the line between government and religion has been blurred (or removed altogether).
Warocratic
Police states where its leaders don’t even try to hide the fact that they’re out to dominate and control other states. Warocratic governments are hostile and bloodthirsty, comprised of entire populations that have been born and bred for war.
